First I want to start with wishing all my Irish friends a Happy St. Patrick's Day! I am not in the least bit Irish, but the crazy thing is, a Leprechaun kept hiding things all over the apartment this morning, go figure!!?? ;)
So, a weekend update, what can I say about this weekend, it sucked, or better yet, it spewed, maybe a more apt description! LOL Oh and on Saturday my daughter and son were roughhousing on my bed, to which I told them to stop before someone ended up hurt and guess what? Someone, namely my daughter, banged her mouth off my headboard and basically split open her top gums. A scene straight from a gory slasher movie ensued and off to the ER she went! nothing was torn and she just had to be careful and eat softish foods for a few days...fun times..
Over the weekend I did finish up reading The Pillars Of The Earth and you can read my review here...
The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
My review
rating: 4 of 5 stars
I'll start off by saying that I am a sucker for a good historical fiction and this book did no disappoint! It sucked me in from page one and kept me hooked (for the most past) all the way through the 900+ pages. My favorite characters by far were Ellen, Jack and Aliena. I just felt most connected to their story and therefore most invested in what happened to them. I also enjoyed the Prior Phillip character and to a lesser extent Tom. I just found myself liking and being annoyed equally with Tom and just could never connect with the character, if that makes sense! I loathed William, which I suppose was the point of the character, but I found him to be a little to much of a characatcher by the end. I wish perhaps the author had done something more with the character then just the typical one dimensional "bad guy" thing.
When I read a historical fiction novel I love to have a lot of details, what they ate, describe their clothes, buildings and things of that nature. There was a lot of that is this book and I just loved that, but I also found there was a little to much sometimes about the cathedral, a little TO much description that went on for page after page and after awhile I found myself sort of skimming over all that to get back to the dialogue between characters, but that is just a small criticism! Overall I really enjoyed the novel and will most definitely be reading World Without End and would recommend Pillars to anyone who loves historical fiction.
I also have a LO to show off, finished this one last week and I LOVE it (if I do say so myself lol) I used the new and very cool kit Chic Spring by Bisontine and Catherine Designs. It's available today at Shabby Pickle Designs and Thursday at After 5 Designs! This is a must have kit!!
AND, if that wasn't enough info..I am also hosting this month's AD Challenge at Sweet Shoppe Designs...you can check it out HERE (<---link) along with many other challenges and earn some sweet reward points for a discount!
Ok, enough business for today! I hope you have a fabulous day and until next time..TATA!!
